Pastor shot, killed on way home from worship [Excerpts]

 

Two masked members of the al-Shabaab Muslim militia shot and killed a pastor in Somalia as he drove home from a worship service, according to reports.

Mogadishu pastor Ali Hussein Weheliye was killed in the attack in October, but reports of the incident didn’t come out until this week.

Experts at the missions think-tank the Joshua Project estimate Somalia is 99 percent Muslim. International Christian Concern’s Jonathan Racho agrees with that statistic and says the overwhelming numbers make it difficult to be a Christian in Somalia.

“A vast majority of Somalis are Muslims, but there are hundreds of Christians in Somalia. This pastor was the pastor of an underground church,” Racho said.

“Christians in Somalia have to go underground and they don’t give away their identities because once al-Shabaab knows someone is a Christian, that is a death sentence for that person,” he said.

Racho makes the death sentence claim because al-Shabaab is a jihadist militia with close ties to Osama bin Laden and the al-Qaida terrorist group.

Intelligence sources say most al-Shabaab fighters receive training at al-Qaida or Taliban training camps in Pakistan before being sent to Somalia for the declared anti-Christian jihad in that eastern African nation.

Racho said these facts are evidence Weheliye’s murder is not an isolated incident.

“Al-Shabaab has gone on a campaign of killing Christians. One of its official policies is to eradicate Christians from Somalia,” Racho said.

“This year alone, Pastor Ali is the fifteenth Christian to be killed in Somalia. The killing has been going on for the past several years. The church in Somalia is going through a difficult time. If this trend continues many more Christians will be killed and many will be forced to leave Somalia,” Racho explained.

A Council on American-Islamic Relations [CAIR] adviser and regular speaker at its events has suggested Islamic law permits Muslims to attack C-130 military transport planes carrying the 82nd Airborne out of Fort Bragg, NC. Radical Islamic cleric Zaid Shakir, a frequent guest speaker at CAIR events, tells his Muslim audiences: “Jihad is physically fighting the enemies of Islam to protect and advance the religion of Islam. This is jihad.” Acceptable targets of jihad, he says, include U.S. military aircraft. “Islam doesn’t permit us to hijack airplanes filled with civilian people,” Shakir once told a Muslim audience. However, “If you hijack an airplane filled with the 82nd Airborne, that’s something else.” The 82nd Airborne Division’s elite paratroopers fly out of Fort Bragg, N.C., which is part of North Carolina state Sen. Larry Shaw’s district. Shaw is CAIR’s new chairman. Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly gunned down in cold blood more than 50 of his fellow soldiers preparing to deploy to Iraq and Afghanistan from Fort Hood, Texas. Eyewitnesses say before opening fire, Hasan jumped up on a desk and screamed, “Allahu akbar!” like the 9/11 hijackers. The suspect fatally shot 13, including a security guard. The death toll is actually 14 when a slain unborn child is counted. Imam Shakir also gives his blessing to the use of bombs as a weapon of jihad, as long as the explosives hit “select” targets and are not indiscriminate in their destruction. Civilians can be a legitimate target, he says, if “there’s a benefit in that,” according to “Muslim Mafia,” co-authored by former federal agent P. Su nombre es Rifqa Bary de 17 años, huyo de su hogar ya que “temía por su vida” tras haberse convertido al cristianismo e incorporarse a una iglesia evangélica.

La familia que llegó desde Sri Lanka a Estados Unidos el año 2000 indicó que nunca la han amenazado, de ninguna manera y lo único que desean es que Rifqa regrese a su hogar, junto a ellos.

Por el momento la adolescente se encuentra en orlando con una familia de acogida, quien desea permanecer en todo momento con ella.

Mientras tanto el Departamento para cumplimiento de la ley de florida ha estado investigando si se han producido amenazas reales contra la vida de la adolescente y los funcionarios estatales presentaran hoy sus conclusiones ante el tribunal, mientras que Funcionarios del departamento de protección de menores hay señalado que el regreso de Rifqa es seguro y que es conveniente que la adolescente se someta a una sesión de terapia y se reúna con sus padres Musulmanes.

To many people struggling in this job-starved part of rural Michigan, unemployment is a bigger threat than terrorists.

With unemployment at more than 17 percent, many residents say they would welcome detainees from Guantanamo Bay in order to save the 280 jobs at a prison scheduled to close because of state budget cuts.

“We’ll take the most dangerous prisoners the world has to offer if we have to,” corrections officer Paul Piche said Monday.

The Standish Maximum Correctional Facility and the military penitentiary at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., are possible locations for a heavily guarded site to hold the 229 suspected al-Qaida, Taliban and foreign fighters now jailed at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba, senior U.S. officials say.

“Anything that keeps the prison open is fine with me,” said Perry Pelton, owner of Wheeler’s Restaurant on Main Street.

The prison holds about 600 inmates and is the top employer in the community about 145 miles northwest of Detroit.

El cristianismo ha estado en Egipto seis siglos más que el islam, pero sólo 12 por ciento de la población es cristiana. Los musulmanes son un 87 por ciento. La constitucion del país da preferencia a la mayoría y los cristianos son tratados como ciudadanos de segunda clase.

Algunas jóvenes cristianas han sido raptadas y obligadas a convertirse al islam. Otros han sido seducidos a renunciar su fe cristiana con promesas de dinero y una vida más próspera. Ese fue el caso de la hija de un campesino llamado Saber Sabeh Gadállah.

Al ponerse el sol sobre los campos de el minya, Egipto, Saber puso los últimos bultos de paja sobre su carreta y regresó a su casa. El hijo de un vecino musulmán se acercó y pidió comprar paja. Saber estaba cansado y mandó al patio a su hija Suzanne, de 16 años, para conseguir la paja. Ella no regresó.

Saber explica cómo le respondió un oficial cuando informó a la policía que su hija había desaparecido, “me dio una bofetada y gritó: ¿qué quiere que hagamos, guardar su casa las 24 horas?”, explicó Saber.

Saber cree que Suzanne fue raptada y obligada a casarse y convertirse al islam. Aunque la policía puede saber donde está Suzanne, se rehúsan a revelar a sus padres donde encontrarla.

“Ella nunca haría algo así por su propia voluntad. Ella es muy amable, inocente y respetuosa de sus padres. Si lo hizo voluntariamente, porqué no me dejan preguntarle en persona?”, dijo Saber. El asegura que su familia está devastada y sólo quiere descubrir la verdad.

Una exmusulmana, a quien llamamos Raquel, dice que aceptó a Cristo después de enamorarse y casarse con un cristiano. Su identidad ha sido protegida para evitar que sufra de ataques por parte de su familia ya que ellos no saben que se casó con un cristiano, ni que dejó la fe islámica. Ahora se esconde porque asegura que será asesinada si la descubren.

“Está escrito en el Corán que deben matarme y llevarse a mi hijo. Ellos sí lo harían”, comentó “Raquel”, una exmusulmana.

Pero Dios está usando a su gente para ayudar a creyentes perseguidos como Raquel y para dar a otros esperanza y oportunidad. Cristianos estadounidenses, guiados por un misionero, se han unido a evangélicos egipcios. Están colaborando para alcanzar a los cristianos que sufren necesidad en los pueblos de Egipto.

A los niños les dan bolsas de regalo con papel, lápices, dulces y máscaras. A las viudas que no tienen suficiente para comprar comida les dan arroz y pollo.

A otros cristianos pobres les dan préstamos para establecer micro empresas. Por ejemplo, un hombre no puede encontrar empleo porque no puede caminar. Pero con un préstamo de mil libras egipcias compró tres ovejas, las crió y en sólo siete meses las pudo vender por 1.500. Él piensa comprar cuatro o cinco más para generar fondos adicionales y apoyar a su familia.

“Empiezan con cabras y ovejas y luego los convierten en algo más grande que les da mayores ingresos.”, comentó Basem Sabry, un trabajador cristiano.

Sabry dice que Dios ha enviado a los cristianos para ayudarles a cambiar sus vidas. “Sienten el amor de Dios por medio de los cristianos americanos y egipcios que les ayudan. Ven el amor del Dios verdadero, no amor de palabra sino amor de hechos”, expresó Basem Sabry.

Raquel y otros cristianos egipcios dicen que esperan muchas pruebas en los próximos días. Su fe es fortalecida en la tristeza y las lágrimas, pero gracias a la ayuda y las oraciones de cristianos de tierras lejanas, se sienten animados, eso les recuerda que Dios está con ellos en medio de sus dificultades.

“El Señor dice que cuida de los pájaros. Imagine cuánto más cuida de nosotros”, dijo “Raquel”.
